Can the internet replace schools? Well, internet has grown at an immense pace and has affected practically every aspect of our lives. In such a scenario, it is not surprising that the impact of internet on the education sector is a hot topic.

In theory, kids can stay at home and use high-speed internet connections and videoconferencing facilities to attend classes as if they are in school. However, the advantages of interacting with other children of their own age outweighs convenience of the web. However, this does not mean the internet cannot have a positive impact on an individual’s education.

It is important to use the web to research for information. The web is fast becoming the repository of all human knowledge. The right search engine can help an individual explore all facets of a particular topic and find the right research method to adopt.

Once education is complete, the internet can help promote the skills and abilities of the person to potential employers. Education, for the sake of knowledge, is not of much use unless it is combined with practical and financial benefits. A person who studies without the help of internet may find himself at a disadvantage when compared to another person who has used the web for gaining knowledge and promoting his or her reputation.

Option of studying even after settling down in a job is always present. The internet makes this possible. Distance education and vocational courses will have a huge impact on the skill set of an individual even after the so-called student life has come to an end.

Best Gadgets for Students

The classroom is wherever you are these days. Whether you visit a college campus or whether you prefer online learning, being mobile is a necessity. In fact, smartphones are becoming a big part of the education system. Even high school campuses are realizing the power of eLearning.

Gadgets Students Should Have

  • Smartphone. As education and technology advance, students will be expected to own a smartphone to complete quizzes, read assignments and interact with their teachers. Some schools will provide the phone, but for those who have to buy their own, something like the prepaid blackberry curve is a good choice. It’s easy to use, and it is safe and secure for internet browsing. As a long time leader in phone technology, it has also become one of the more affordable smartphones.
  • Netbook. Although tablets are popular, the netbook is still the most practical way to do school work. It’s light and rugged, and it still has a keyboard. When typing essays and assignments, the intuitive design of the keyboard is a big time saver. There is a bit of a learning curve with the smaller design of the keypad, but it won’t take long to type quickly and accurately.

Digital camera. The smartphones definitely work for photos and videos, but if your education requires higher resolution and quality, owning a camera is a smart move.

The Student Budget

All of these “must have” gadgets are actually quite affordable. With the many advancements in technology, the competition among companies has made it possible to get phones and cameras for less than $100. Netbooks are very well priced, too. As textbooks disappear, gadgets will take over and save students money.

Getting a Quality Online Education on a Budget

These days, with technology advancing almost every day, it’s become easier than ever to get an education online. The best part is that there are numerous options, so finding the best school and program for you isn’t as difficult as it used to be.

New online-specific universities have been popping up in ever-increasing numbers over the past few years. From the University of Phoenix to Capella University and Kaplan Online, the options are nearly endless. What’s even better about these types of universities is that they are offering some of the most popular online degrees, such as Business, Education, and Communications. They offer Bachelor’s degree as well as Master’s degrees. Some schools even offer online PhD programs!

Cost is a big factor in secondary education these days, especially with the current economic situation. While most schools offer tuition assistance, sometimes it just isn’t enough. The good thing here is that most online schools are very affordable and are willing to work out payment plans for tuition and expenses if necessary.

Because online education programs are relatively low in cost, many people are turning to that option instead of taking the traditional college or university route. Because of the high number of schooling options available online these days, be sure you have your goals clarified before you begin. Know what you want from a school will help you find the school that is best suited to your goals. Schools have different strengths and weaknesses, so by knowing what you want from a school, you’ll be better equipped to choose the best one.

The Benefits of the General Requirement Classes

Many university students look at the general requirement classes as nothing more that a nuisance. After all, they know just what they want to be. They have researched how much schooling they will need as well as how much money they are going to make as soon as they begin work. But these classes do serve more of a purpose than just being a placeholder for a student’s time the first two years of college.

General requirement classes typically look to give students a foundation in things like writing and math. By now most of them have realized that without at least a basic knowledge in these areas, things aren’t going to go well career wise. Other classes are usually required, but students have some options in what they want to take. For example, they may need to register for something to meet a western civilizations requirement but there may be several different classes, each with its own focus, for them to choose from.

These choices are beneficial in that they give students a chance to explore different areas of study. They may find along the way that they enjoyed the history classes and plan to take it on as a major or minor. They may have gone in with a clear picture of wanting to be a teacher, but these classes give them exposure to different subjects they could potentially want to teach. These classes still give students choices but force them to look around and see beyond their original goals and aspirations. While some will still stick with their original plan, they have at the very least received a more well rounded education.

Emergency Cash for Students

There are several different options for emergency cash assistance for students available, such as a federal supplemental educational opportunity grant, and what is call a federal Perkins loan. Things in your life happen such as a death n the family, prolonged illness of a loved one or yourself, or a job loss. These things happen, and you can’t change them, but there are ways of getting the cash you need to further your education without halting your career path and your personal advancement.

On a college campus you can go to the financial aid department and apply for financial aid. There are some requirements that need to be met, such as a minimum GPA, but this emergency fund is usually less than $1,000. The federal supplemental educational opportunity grant is for college students who are in exceptional financial need. Students that meet the requirements could receive $100 to $4,000 a year, depending on when they applied for this help.

Federal Perkins loans are a low interest loan of 5% for college students in desperate need, Students can borrow up to $5,500 per year for undergraduate and $8,000 for graduate students. You can also consult a private lender, like Payday One, who provides quick cash over the internet with great rates.

Picking one of these options depends on your own personal situation and how much money you will need to get through your years in college, but at the end of those years you will have better opportunities for a high paying job, job security, and a better feeling about yourself and where you are going with your life.

Online Learning For Degrees And Certificates

As they wade through the hundreds, or even thousands, of resumes that a job posting generates, employers obviously need a way to filter the influx. Many companies use specialized software to search through the resumes for certain keywords. Although this process may seem unfair to job seekers, for many employers, there is no viable alternative. Most of these searches are designed to identify applicants with certain qualifications, degrees and certificates. Therefore, it is vitally important for job seekers to identify what qualifications the employer wants. For many, this means going back to school to obtain the necessary degree or certificate, and online learning can be the perfect way to do so. Here are a couple of reasons why.

1. Learn At Your Pace

Traditional, brick-and-mortar classroom learning is almost always “one size fits all”. Since the teacher is teaching everyone at once, he is unable to slow down without frustrating the quicker students or speed up without frustrating the slower ones. This results in a learning pace that is best for only a fraction of the class. However, if the class is being taught online, different methods are possible. The teacher can record a lecture, making it possible for him to record the lecture at a fast pace, so that fast learners are satisfied. Slower learners can pause or rewind the lecture to proceed at a pace that is more comfortable for them.

2. Learn On Your Time

Morning classes don’t work for everyone; neither do evening classes. With online learning and recorded lectures, students can log on whenever is convenient for them. This allows more students to fit classes into their lives. Tests and quizzes can also be done online, so that students can take them at convenient times. Although it is sometimes more difficult for students to collaborate online than in person, online learning has many more advantages than disadvantages.

Using Job Boards Intelligently

In a tough economy, there is intense competition for most jobs, especially jobs that are advertised online. Since it’s now so easy for a job-seeker to send a resume to an employer, employers must sift through a multitude of resumes for all but the most specialized positions. As many job-seekers know, it can be difficult to get a response from an employer, let alone an interview. As they search through job ads on the internet, many job-seekers get frustrated. However, there are a few steps applicants can take to make the job search process more efficient when searching for a job online. Here is one idea on how to make applying for jobs online a little more productive.

Apply Only For Jobs You’re Qualified To Do

If you’re out of work, it can certainly be tempting to apply for any and all jobs that you think you can do. But what you think you can do and what an employer’s human resources software thinks you can do are often two different things entirely. The employer’s HR software is designed to reduce the job applications to a manageable level, and that means weeding out anyone who does not have certain keywords in his resume. So, an applicant should make sure she has the keywords mentioned in the ad on her resume (and of course, this means applying only to jobs she is qualified to do). This cuts down on the frustration for both the applicant and the employer. Although it can be tempting to go for a job that has little to do with what you’ve done before, this is almost always a waste of time if you’re applying for a job online for a company in which you don’t know anyone. Of course, if you do know someone at your prospective employer, you have a little more leeway if they can be an advocate for you.

Advancing Your Career with an MBA

Many times we are just unhappy in our present career path.  We often feel like there is another job we want to have, a position higher up the ladder or even a business we want to start.  One way to accomplish any of these goals is to go back to school and get a graduate-level degree.  You might want an MBA or a Master’s degree in a subject like marketing, economics, finance or some other subject.  It really does not matter what type of degree you pursue if it is something you will enjoy and something that can help advance your career.  If you have no idea where to start looking into these things, then I would suggest a website that I found extremely useful when I started looking into getting my MBA.  The site onlinembarankings.com is a great place to get started.  You can find multiple top resources like The Wall Street Journal’s rankings of various business schools.  But you will also find plenty o other important information to help make your choice a comfortable one.

For example, did you know that you can now find quality programs that offer courses and degrees online?  Now you can complete your degree while still working your present career path.  This is great if you like your company and know that your MBA will help you get promoted within it.  Now you do not have to quit working there and hope to be rehired.  You might even be able to get them to help pay for your courses with a requirement that you stay on in their company.  This website also explains how to get admitted and what will be expected of you when you are applying for enrollment in schools.  You can find career planning advice and a blog to read up to date information.  All in all, making the choice to go back to school is something you should consider for career satisfaction and advancement.

Woman Entrepreneurs and Self Confidence

We live in a world that is more supportive of women entrepreneurs than ever before. In fact, we are so good to woman entrepreneurs, it’s a shame that there are not more out there doing great things for the world (and for their own fortunes). But unfortunately, women traditionally have a problem that most men neither know about or really understand. See, a woman is often conditioned from a very young age to quietly support other people in the background, and not to seek any kind of praise for herself- even if she richly deserves it, and contributes at an incredibly high level to the world around her.

While this lack of self confidence (and total deficit in attention seeking) is great for staying humble, it can shoot a person in the foot when it comes to business. Every entrepreneur is a sales person, whether they like it or not. If you can’t sell, you either need to partner up with someone who does, or get over it. Either you need to have the abilities, find the abilities, or just get a job (which in itself requires selling). So a woman can have real problems. But fortunately, we are past the point in history where selling has to happen door to door.

Nowadays we have the internet, we have brochures, TV and billboard ads covering the world. You have so many options that can allow you to display the value that you provide, without having to brag about it. So you can use a woman’s natural finesse, and have the best of both worlds. Not only can you advertise your business in all sorts of different ways, but you can also be a simple, humble individual in your dealings with others, and not be related to anything that could also be a female dog. So keep on keeping on – it’s our world, too!
